Screenshot-2023-02-23-112110-300x195According to officials from the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP), a truck carrying a large steel tank as cargo collided with the undercarriage of the SW 66 Street/Williams Road overpass at 9:14 a.m. Fortunately, no injuries were reported. The FHP stated in a news release that work crews were currently removing damaged concrete from the overpass and that debris removal and possible temporary repairs would last for at least three hours. As a result of the incident, all northbound traffic was being diverted at County Road 484 near Belleview, while southbound lanes remained open but were moving slowly. Southwest 66th Street (Williams Road) was closed. The truck driver, a 50-year-old man from Lakeland, was making a delivery in Ocala at the time of the incident. As of 7 p.m., the interstate remained closed, and officials were hoping to open the roadway before the next day. Inspectors had concluded their work before nightfall, and officials had wrapped the bridge to prevent loose concrete from falling on vehicles traveling below. Law enforcement officials had to detour traffic throughout Marion County, causing major congestion on side streets and roadways. Troopers also responded to numerous crashes throughout the day, including one fatal crash in Ocala.

An accident involving a semi-truck leads to death of SUV passenger.

MIRAMAR, Fla. – Investigators at the Florida Highway Patrol are looking into the cause of a crash that ended in the death of a passenger in a Ford SUV. The accident happened yesterday morning near University Drive along the southbound lanes of the Florida Turnpike. According to initial reports, the accident involved a semi-truck, which was located in the vicinity of the accident site and had evident damage to the front-end, apparently caused by a front-end collision with the vehicle driven by a 26-year-old, who had exited the vehicle prior to the collision. Sadly, his passenger, a 20 year-old-man, died from the injuries sustained by the rear-ended impact of the semi-truck, which propelled the SUV into the concrete wall medium along the paved shoulder. What led to the accident is still unknown but it’s clear that the SUV had been stopped in the center lane when it was struck by the semi-truck.

Treat an accident with a truck just like any other motor vehicle accident. First check that everyone in the vehicle is ok and immediately contact the police. Request an ambulance if anyone in the car is hurt. If possible and necessary, move the vehicle off the road and onto the shoulder if on a highway. Make sure to put on your hazard lights. Do not exit the vehicle. Wait for the police to arrive. Making sure to get a copy of the police report and the truck driver’s information. Though not as common as car accidents on the highway, trucks do crash and when they do, cars suffer damage and passengers are injured. There are many reasons for truck accidents that are not always the driver’s fault. Many times, cargo is improperly loaded or fastened. Always remember to report the accident to your insurance provider, but do not give them any details of the accident until talking to a car accident lawyer in Miami. Truck cargo hits I-75 overpass

In Miami, the Perazzo Law Firm understands truck accidents and why they occur regularly along Florida highways and roadways.

From the image, it’s easy to imagine what happened when wooden pallets crashed into the overpass along Interstate 75. Though most overhead clearances can be as high as 16 feet high, some individuals negligently exceed the maximum height for Florida roadway overpasses and bridges. When this happens, motor vehicle accidents are practically inevitable.
