HIALEAH: A man appeared before a judge after intentionally running over a Hialeah Police officer while operating a stolen motorcycle. The incident occurred during a traffic stop, and ended with the officer having to undergo surgery on Sunday to treat the injuries he had sustained in this incident. The following day, the perpetrator faced court proceedings.
In Miami-Dade Circuit Court, Judge Mindy Glazer set a bail of $30,000 for the perpetrator, who was arrested for attempting to elude and flee from law enforcement. According to officials, the officer tried to detain him not far from East Fourth Avenue and 49th Street in Hialeah. When the rider of the stolen motorcycle tried to escape, the officer grabbed him by the shoulder. However, the perpetrator accelerated, dragging the officer into the police car.
The injured officer was immediately taken to the hospital, where he underwent surgery to treat fractures and torn ligaments in his knee. Meanwhile, the aggressor initially fled the scene but was later apprehended by the police. It was revealed that he was already out on felony bond from another case at the time of the incident and has now been returned to custody.
During the courtroom proceedings, a lawyer stated that the defendant was accused of riding a stolen motorcycle and had an ongoing case for grand theft auto. Although the ex-convict is currently held on bond, he will be released on Tuesday due to his violation of probation related to the previous felony charge. (News source 7 News Miami)
