On Wednesday night, a driver traveling in the wrong direction caused several injuries after colliding with two cars in Sarasota, as reported by the Florida Highway Patrol. The incident occurred just before 9 p.m. on Interstate 75, north of Laurel Road. According to the FHP, a 69-year-old man was driving a van in the wrong direction on the southbound lanes of I-75 when he collided with an SUV that was approaching the Laurel Road exit. The driver then crashed the front of the van into a sedan directly behind the SUV in the left lane. The SUV occupants, including a 50-year-old woman, a 21-year-old man, and a 15-year-old girl, sustained minor injuries, as did the wrong-way driver. No one in the sedan was hurt. The FHP is still investigating the crash.
