In Miami, a multi-vehicle collision on Interstate 95 resulted in three individuals being transported to the hospital and led to the shutdown of all five southbound lanes for several hours. City of Miami Fire Rescue units swiftly responded to the scene of the multi-vehicle accident at approximately 6:20 a.m. on a Sunday.
Upon arrival, first responders encountered three vehicles, including an 18-wheeler, that had been involved in the collision. Radio transmissions from the scene indicated concern for potential injuries, with one responder mentioning, “It looks like we’ve got some injured people here on the right side,” and another expressing the need to reach a possible trapped victim near the tractor-trailer.
An off-duty paramedic on route to work stopped to provide aid to the victims upon noticing the jackknifed tractor-trailer and the absence of emergency personnel. He offered assistance as the initial responder until the arrival of fire rescue personnel.
As a result of the crash, two patients, a male and a female, were transported to Ryder Trauma Center in serious condition, while another female patient was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital in stable condition. Although the full extent of their injuries remains unclear, all three are expected to recover.
The Florida Highway Patrol has taken charge of the investigation into the collision.
