Orange County: According to the Florida Highway Patrol, an Apopka police officer sustained injuries when a driver ran a red light and crashed into a marked police car in Orange County. The incident occurred at approximately 3:30 p.m. at the intersection of Orange Blossom Trail and Maitland Boulevard. A Chevrolet Camaro was traveling westbound on the Maitland Boulevard off-ramp, approaching Orange Blossom Trail. Meanwhile, a marked patrol car from the Apopka Police Department was heading southbound on Orange Blossom Trail, approaching Maitland Boulevard in the inside lane.
The driver of the Camaro disregarded the red light and collided with the left front side of the police cruiser. The injured officer was transported to a hospital, but the injuries were not life-threatening. The driver of the Camaro remained at the scene and did not sustain any injuries. The crash is currently being investigated.
