Fiery Crash in Weston Involving Tesla
New York — Tesla is recalling over 120,000 vehicles due to a defect that may cause unlocked doors to open during a crash, increasing injury risks, according to safety regulators.
This issue impacts specific 2021-2023 Model S and X vehicles in the United States, as per the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
Tesla identified the defect during a routine crash test on December 6 and has not reported any injuries or claims related to the issue.
The company has released an over-the-air (OTA) software update to address the defect in the affected vehicles. Owners will receive notification letters by February 17, 2024.
Autopilot Risks
Last week, Tesla recalled nearly all 2 million of its vehicles in the United States to limit the use of its Autopilot feature. This recall followed a two-year investigation by US safety regulators into about 1,000 crashes involving the feature.
The NHTSA stated that the Autopilot system can give drivers a false sense of security and be easily misused in dangerous situations where Tesla’s technology may fail to navigate safely.
Tesla issued an OTA update to provide more warnings to drivers not paying attention while using the Autopilot’s “Autosteer” function. These notifications will remind drivers to keep their hands on the wheel and stay alert, according to an NHTSA statement.
The recall occurred two days after the Washington Post published a detailed investigation revealing at least eight serious accidents, including some fatalities, where the Autopilot feature should not have been engaged.
The Value of Autopilot
With a market cap of over $791 billion, Tesla (TSLA) remains the most valuable automaker globally, despite trailing competitors like Ford and Toyota in sales.
This valuation is largely driven by future sales projections, proprietary Tesla software, and AI development. However, recent recalls may threaten Tesla’s leading position.
“In the long term, I think Tesla has the potential to become the most valuable company in the world by far,” said Tesla’s CEO in October during a call with Wall Street analysts. “If you have fully autonomous cars at scale and fully autonomous humanoid robots that are truly useful, it’s not clear what the limit is.”
Tesla did not immediately respond to CNN’s request for comment.
Tesla shares have risen 105% overall in 2023 but have declined 1.6% in the past six months.
Fiery Crash in Weston Involving Tesla
Tesla Driver Dies in Fiery Crash on SR 84 in Weston
WESTON, FLA. (WSVN) – Authorities are investigating a fatal overnight crash in Weston that resulted in the death of a man after his Tesla burst into flames.
Units from the Broward Sheriff’s Office and Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue were dispatched to the scene of a single-vehicle accident near State Road 84 and Bonaventure Boulevard shortly after 3:30 a.m. on Sunday. Upon arrival, they found a 2024 Tesla Model 3 engulfed in flames.
According to initial reports from investigators, the Tesla was traveling eastbound on State Road 84. As the vehicle approached the intersection with Bonaventure Boulevard, the driver attempted to execute a U-turn to navigate under the Interstate 75 overpass. However, the driver failed to successfully complete the turn, causing the car to veer off the roadway and collide with a support column for the overpass.
The impact of the collision was severe, and the Tesla immediately caught fire. Emergency responders quickly worked to extinguish the flames, but the intensity of the fire made it impossible to save the driver. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene.
Officials have stated that identifying the driver is currently challenging due to the severity of the burns sustained in the crash. Efforts to determine the driver’s identity are ongoing, with investigators likely relying on forensic methods and dental records.
The circumstances leading up to the crash are still under investigation. Authorities are looking into various factors, including whether speed, mechanical failure, or other elements may have contributed to the incident. They are also examining if there were any witnesses or surveillance footage that could provide additional insights into the crash.
This tragic accident underscores the importance of road safety and the potential hazards of navigating complex roadways, particularly during the early morning hours when visibility may be reduced. As the investigation continues, the community awaits more information on what exactly led to this devastating event.

TESLA PAYS 10.5 IN CLAIMS IN WRONGFUL DEATH TRIAL
Despite a history of traffic violations and reckless driving, the car accident lawyers representing two teenagers who died when their Tesla crashed into a 25 mph curve at over 100 mph secured a $10.5 million settlement. It’s common sense for drivers to avoid taking sharp curves at such high speeds. Regardless of whether you’re driving a Tesla or a Ferrari, high-speed collisions can result in severe injuries. Although car components like batteries and windshields are rigorously inspected by manufacturers, the lawyers for the families of the victims in the 2018 Tesla crash argued that Tesla was negligent. Ultimately, a jury found Tesla liable based on a technicality.
TESLA RECALL BEGINS OVER SAFETY MEASURES MAKING THEM UNSAFE TO DRIVERS IN THE EVENT OF A COLLISION

Things keep getting worse for Tesla. Not only did its stock value plummet by 15% last month, but now, Tesla has announced new recalls on thousands of Tesla brand vehicles.
The recalls include cars on sale in the U.S.A and in lovely China. The recall is based on issues concerning the safety of seatbelts and tires. Some 5,500 Model 3 cars manufactured during 2018 and 2020 and 2,166 Model Y vehicles launched during 2019 – 2021. Apparently, part of the Tesla recall is based on concerns that the front seatbelt shoulder restraint does not work as it should. Thus, in the event of a collision, the driver or passenger may experience severe personal injury due to the defective seatbelt fasteners throughout the vehicles’ interior. Tesla is recalling these vehicles and is planning to have the defective seatbelts repaired or replaced.
Tesla Service will repair the hole threads and/or replace the top loop.” In China, meanwhile, Tesla will be contacting electric vehicle owners in order to carryout inspections, repairs, and/or modifications free of charge. Unfortunately for Tesla, defective seat belts are not their only concern as there are issues with the braking system, in particular, potentially loose brake caliper bolts. Another 135,000 vehicles are being recalled, which include sedans and SUVs, due to defective touchscreen that unexpectedly stop operating when on for some time.
Miami Car Accident Lawyer Serving Car Accident Victims & Products Liability Claims

Car Manufacturers pump-out hundreds of thousands of vehicles every year and are constantly rolling out new designs aimed at enhancing style, comfort, and safety, all of which require advanced technological complexity. It’s this complexity that makes car manufactures more prone to design and manufacturing defects, which in turn can lead to personal injury from car accidents. Because when motorists operate defective vehicles, there is a potential threat of suffering personal injury from a crash. That’s when car companies recall the vehicles they consider are dangerous to drivers, pedestrians, and anyone on the road. But what happens when a vehicle owner or driver is involved in an accident that stems from a defective car part, faulty software, or self-deploying airbag? That’s when accident victims, friends or family need to consult the professional advice of the Perazzo Law Firm in Miami.
Common Product Liability Claims involving Motor Vehicles
Car accidents and injuries from motor vehicle collisions on Miami avenues, streets, and highways, are normally the result of human error or negligence such as reckless driving, drunk driving, cell phone use, or third party negligence.
Third party negligence can include any of the following:
- Faulty Auto Parts such as brakes, chassis, suspension, tires, etc..
- Defective Airbags. Manufacturing or installation flaws can lead to self deployment of airbags. See Airbag Accidents
- Dealership Mechanical Error. Dealerships and authorized mechanics may sometimes not do their best when replacing, repairing, installing, or simply inspecting a vehicle.
- Manufacturing Defects: Manufacturers may design a vehicle that is prone to an accident.
- Software Flaws: Modern vehicle rely on software. When the software is outdated or contains glitches, the chances of being in an accident are greater.
Safety recalls were issued this past Wednesday for seven popular Ford models built between 2009 and 2017. These recalls address a range of manufacturing flaws. For instance, 2011-2017 Explorers built in Chicago have been recalled due to defective suspensions, while F-150s manufactured in Dearborn and Kansas City have faulty powertrain software modules.
Additional recalled models include the Ford Econoline, which has weld failures that could impact acceleration, and sedans like the Taurus, Flex, and Lincolns MKS & MKL, all of which suffer from serious rear suspension defects that could lead to accidents.
According to an announcement on the Ford Motor Company’s official website, F-150s with six-speed, 5.0 or 6.2-liter engines built at the Dearborn plant between May 2012 and October 2013 have been recalled due to software issues affecting the powertrain. These issues will be addressed by reprogramming the control module. Similarly, F-150s assembled at the Kansas City plant from April to November 2012 are also affected. In total, over 122,000 F-150s have been recalled in the U.S. and Canada.
The Ford Explorer recall is even more extensive, involving over 1.2 million vehicles in the U.S. and Canada due to faulty rear suspension issues that could cause cracks in the rear suspension toe links. If these links crack while driving at high speeds, the driver may lose control, leading to potentially serious accidents and injuries.
Rear suspension malfunctions can result in severe injuries in the event of a collision, including shoulder, hip, and leg injuries from side collisions, and neck injuries from rear-end or head-on collisions. Perazzo Law advises that neck injuries should be taken seriously and recommends that accident victims seek medical attention to rule out spinal cord injuries.
Owners of Taurus, Flex, Lincolns MKS & MKL are also included in the rear suspension recall.
Proving accidents caused by manufacturing flaws requires thorough investigation. The Perazzo Law Firm in Miami urges Ford vehicle owners to check the Ford website for detailed recall information. Authorized Ford dealers and mechanics will replace defective parts or update software applications as necessary, free of charge.
