Truck Accident in Ocala

Screenshot-2023-02-23-112110-300x195According to officials from the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP), a truck carrying a large steel tank as cargo collided with the undercarriage of the SW 66 Street/Williams Road overpass at 9:14 a.m. Fortunately, no injuries were reported. The FHP stated in a news release that work crews were currently removing damaged concrete from the overpass and that debris removal and possible temporary repairs would last for at least three hours. As a result of the incident, all northbound traffic was being diverted at County Road 484 near Belleview, while southbound lanes remained open but were moving slowly. Southwest 66th Street (Williams Road) was closed. The truck driver, a 50-year-old man from Lakeland, was making a delivery in Ocala at the time of the incident. As of 7 p.m., the interstate remained closed, and officials were hoping to open the roadway before the next day. Inspectors had concluded their work before nightfall, and officials had wrapped the bridge to prevent loose concrete from falling on vehicles traveling below. Law enforcement officials had to detour traffic throughout Marion County, causing major congestion on side streets and roadways. Troopers also responded to numerous crashes throughout the day, including one fatal crash in Ocala.
