Two dead and Two Critically Injured in Fire
Authorities are currently investigating a yard fire that occurred in Medley, which resulted in the death of two individuals and left two others in critical condition. The incident is under investigation, and details regarding the cause of the fire and the identities of those involved are currently unknown.
In Medley, a fire at Laurie’s Trailer Repair and General Welding has resulted in the death of two individuals, with two others currently in critical condition. A doorbell camera recorded the explosion that occurred before Miami-Dade Fire Rescue arrived at the site on Tuesday morning, located at 11350 NW South River Drive. On Wednesday, aerial footage revealed the aftermath of the incident, with burned structures, charred metal debris, and possibly damaged metal tanks strewn around the area. Utility workers were observed repairing damaged power lines. The cause of the explosion remains unknown and is currently under investigation.
Detective Luis Sierra from Miami-Dade Police stated that based on preliminary information, the affected company is a welding firm that specializes in heavy machinery. The cause of the explosion is still under investigation. Smoke from the incident was visible from Broward County, causing nearby workers to seek shelter. According to Danny Cardeso with MDFR, the scenario was hazardous due to multiple burning vehicles containing flammable materials and downed power lines, as well as the five people who required rescue and medical attention. Among the burning vehicles was a fuel carrier, and the fire may have been triggered by a spark during acetylene welding. A nearby worker suggested that the welding work on a fuel tanker may have caused the explosion.
Following the containment of the flames by fire officials, a partially burned truck was captured on video footage. Sadly, two individuals were pronounced dead at the scene. Another victim was airlifted while the second was transported by ground to Ryder Trauma Center, both in critical condition. The authorities have not disclosed the identities of the victims at this time.
